As well as restoring old instruments, I build double basses to my own designs. The passage of time is palpable, whether in the drying of the wood or in the experience I have gained. Every new instrument teaches me something new, and I put what I have learnt into practice. In this way, the instruments evolve and the possibilities multiply. The constant quest for a precise tone is what makes the work so exciting. The invisible manifests itself in thoughts and feelings. Materials are tested, and old instruments are studied and measured.

N*7

I built the N*7 double bass this spring of 2026 based on a design I had been developing for some time. The Sonowood fingerboard and tailpiece, made from densified Swiss spruce, are a wonderful alternative to ebony. The back and sides are made out of Italian willow. The top is made out of a Swiss spruce that has been dried for 70 years. All these details, and many more, make this instrument a lightweight, powerful, responsive and focused marvel of sound.
